From “The Human Condition: A User’s Manual,” by
Arnold Kunst
For whatever reason, listening is a luxury very few of us ever
get from those around us. If you can resist the resultant seductive temptation
to scream stridently; if instead you can listen well, and patiently, to just
one person you’re sure to end up with a friend for life. Do it for enough
people and – surprise, surprise! – you’ll be enriched by lots and lots of
friends!
There’s self-discipline implied here; it’s a gift that just
keeps on giving [who knows? maybe even to the far side of the grave]!
