Lincoln’s Wit/Wisdom 246



Logical inconsistencies did not get past the razor-sharp mind of Abraham Lincoln. During the Lincoln-Douglas debated in 1858 Lincoln dismissed Douglas’s argument with devastating effect. ‘Any attempt to twist his views into a call for perfect social and political equality with Negroes was but a specious and fantastic arrangement of words, by which a man can prove a horse chestnut to be a chestnut horse.’
